The student develops an understanding of the structure of the Spanish language and is able to use an appropriate level of formality according to the situation, whether in writing or in speech.
The student completes between two and six courses (depending on his or her choice of emphasis, as either language and linguistics knowledge or literary and cultural knowledge) related to the Spanish language and linguistics. These courses deal with: the sound system of Spanish, the history of Spanish, advanced grammar, Spanish-English translation, a general introduction to Spanish linguistics, Spanish for professional application (medical, legal, etc. spheres), composition and conversation.

Spanish 3013 intro to Spanish Linguistics and Spanish 345: Bilingualism in the Spanish-Speaking World. Both courses were a great opportunity to learn in depth the grammatical and social structure of Spanish. In Spanish class 313 we study the syntax, phonological, phonetic and pragmatic lexical of words. In the social sphere, we were able to identify the factors by which each Spanish-speaking country has its own accents, and how contact with other languages modifies Spanish. For the course of bilingualism, we study the different social groups that exist in a community and what their dialects are when they come into contact with another group. We also study the indigenous dialects of Mexico and Peru with Nahuatl and Quechua. In both dialects we study their structures, and compare them with Spanish. Finally, both classes were a great opportunity to have a closer contact with my language.
