Spanish 321 introduces students to the world of Spanish literature. In this class I had the opportunity to know the historical context of each writer we saw in class. An example is Antonio Machado, one of the greatest representatives of the generation of '98. In class we read some of his poems with beautiful rhymes, these poems told a piece of history. An example of this is, Proverbs and Songs (XXIX), in the poem it expresses the feeling of hope because of the collective suffering Spanish people has to see that his army lost the last territory in America. This is just one example of the many more things to consider. On the other hand, it was also fascinating to see the differences in writing styles that depend on the century in which they were written in. For example, the mysticism of the seventeenth century which only speaks of love towards God. Years later, feminism emerged through the voice of Carolina Coronado. In conclusion this class is a journey through all the Spanish literary centuries.
