SPAN 345 Bilingualism in Span World
|
Course Description: This course will first explore the nature of bilingualism, focusing on its neurolinguistic, psycholinguistic, and linguistic aspects. Students will examine the most important concepts and research questions in these areas. In addition, the class will focus on bilingualism in the United States and the Spanish-speaking world, including the examination of bilingual education programs (e.g., immersion programs) and important political matters connected to them.
This was my first course that I have I had taken in which is the study of our language. I liked this class a lot since it had some connection with the social and psychological environment. The first thing I learned was how a child acquires language, and the stages to consider if the child is to acquire one or more languages effectively. I was also able to know why not all people have the same language skills as others and what those detonating factors are.The first is, it can be a mental illness such as cerebral palsy. A second cause, is the lack of practice in the child since they are like sponges that absorbs what they are taught. Another factor about this course, is that it helped me practice how to help children in their early stages in language acquisition. One of the best ways is to read to them since they are in the womb, and continue doing it in their first years. To finish linguistics, it was a very interesting way to describe that language not only depends on the lexical or semantic structure of the words but also in some ways reinforces the behavior of the individual.
