SPAN 322: Masterpieces of Hispanic Literature: Latin America & the Caribbean |
Latin American literature is focused on the study of authors from Latin America. In this course, I have learned not only from the works of writers such as Garcilaso de la Vega Bartolome de las Casas or Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz but also about their lives and the reasons that led them to write. At the beginning of the course, we began with the study of native literature, such as the Popol Vuh (Mayan book). Chronologically, we continue with writers at the time of the conquest such as Hernán Cortés and Bernal Díaz del Castillo. Following the timeline, with the Argentine José Hernández and the Peruvian Ricardo Palma. Finally Rubén Darío and Jorge Luis Borges. In the same way, we study different literary movements such as romanticism, modernism, neoclassicism, etc. This class was in support of what I had already learned in other similar classes.
